Packaged Plant Rooms

At Dunphy, we specialise in off-site manufactured packaged plant room solutions that provide flexibility for customers with unique energy needs. Packaged plant rooms are self-contained energy centres designed and manufactured off-site in our factory complex in Rochdale. These solutions often combine industrial boilers with burners and controls for maximum efficiency.

Every unit is engineered to suit site-specific factors such as available space, fuel type, and load requirements. The plant room is designed, constructed and tested at our premises and then transported to the site where it is reassembled, commissioned and ready to use.

What is a packaged plant room?

A packaged plant room is a pre-assembled building or containerised module that houses essential heating, hot water, and energy generation equipment.

These units are manufactured, wired, and tested off-site before being delivered to site as an instant solution ready for immediate connection to your existing services.

Dunphy’s packaged solutions are engineered for performance, compliance, and long-term reliability tailored to each client’s load profile and energy strategy.

Benefits of using a prefabricated package plant room

All core components are manufactured in-house, including:

  • Axial air flow burners
  • BG01-compliant control panels
  • Sequencing systems
  • Hotwells
  • Gas boosters
  • Fuel pumps
  • Industrial gas burners

We also produce all necessary technical documentation, such as FDS reports, DSEAR analyses, and SIL assessments.

Once on site, the plant room is quickly reconnected and commissioned by our experienced mechanical and electrical engineers, minimising downtime and disruption, essentially they’re plug in and play.

Do I need a packaged plant room?

Packaged plant rooms are used across a diverse range of industries including:

  • Hospitals and healthcare facilities – for consistent heating, hot water, and sterilisation systems

  • Schools, colleges, and universities – offering scalable, centralised energy solutions for multiple buildings

  • Manufacturing and industrial plants – ensuring reliable process heating and energy management

  • Food processing facilities – where hygiene and temperature control are critical

  • Pharmaceutical and chemical sites – requiring strict compliance and safe energy infrastructure

  • Data centres – supporting cooling systems and backup power integration

Difference between pre packaged and prefabricated plant rooms?

A pre packed plant room is partially assembled off-site, with equipment mounted and pre-piped on skids or frames but still requiring significant installation, interconnection, and commissioning work on site. In contrast, a prefabricated plant room is a fully built, self-contained unit complete with structure, equipment, internal pipework, wiring, and controls, manufactured and tested off-site and then delivered ready for quick plug and play connection, minimising site work and disruption.

Modular Plant rooms

Modular plant rooms are fully integrated, pre-engineered energy centres built from individual modules that connect seamlessly on-site to form a complete, high performance system. Similar to our packaged plant rooms, our modular plant rooms are also assembled and factory-tested at our Rochdale facility.

This modular approach enables flexible design, rapid deployment, and easy scalability across a wide range of applications.

Key advantages of modular plant rooms include:

  • Scalable architecture – modules can be added or reconfigured to match changing load or capacity requirements.

  • Rapid installation – pre-tested units are delivered ready for fast connection and commissioning.

  • Flexible integration – suitable for phased projects, hybrid fuel systems, or restricted-space environments.

  • Quality assurance – manufactured and tested in controlled conditions for consistent performance
  • Reduced downtime – on-site assembly is streamlined, minimising impact on operations.

  • Future-ready design – supports hydrogen and low-carbon energy systems.

We take a holistic approach to modular plant room projects, ensuring every aspect is carefully planned and executed to meet your requirements and timelines. With dedicated teams at every stage, you have access to our expert staff throughout the process, from initial design to final commissioning.

Our services include:

FAQ’s

What does a packaged plant room do?

A packaged plant room provides a ready-to-use energy hub that delivers heating, hot water, or process energy. All key components from burners and boilers to pumps and control systems are assembled and tested off-site, then delivered as a single, operational unit that connects directly to existing services.

Why choose an off-site manufactured plant room?

Off-site manufacture ensures precision assembly under controlled conditions, reducing build times and avoiding weather-related delays. It also improves safety, quality assurance, and commissioning speed while minimising on-site disruption which is essential for projects in live or sensitive environments such as hospitals or data centres.

Can a packaged plant room be customised for my project?

Yes. Each plant room is designed to meet your site’s footprint, fuel type, and output requirements, whether gas, biofuel, hydrogen blend, or hybrid. Modular layouts, remote monitoring, and integrated safety systems allow complete flexibility across scale and application.

Which industries typically use packaged plant rooms?

Packaged plant rooms are trusted in sectors where dependable heat and power are critical including healthcare, education, food manufacturing, utilities, and large-scale residential or commercial developments. They’re particularly valuable for projects requiring rapid deployment and strict performance control.

How long does it take to install a packaged plant room?

Because most assembly and testing occur off-site, installation time is dramatically reduced. In many cases, systems can be fully operational within days of delivery which is significant advantage over traditional on-site builds.
