Sustainability

We design and manufacture combustion equipment that helps our customers reduce emissions and energy consumption. We hold ourselves to the same standard – tracking our environmental impact, investing in cleaner technology and running our operations as efficiently as possible.

Our Environmental Performance

We completed our first full greenhouse gas inventory in 2024, covering all operations at our Queensway manufacturing site in Rochdale. We report emissions using the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and UK Government (DEFRA) conversion factors.

Baseline year: CY2024

Metric Value
Scope 1 emissions (direct) 102.5 tonnes CO2e
Scope 2 emissions (location-based) 75.8 tonnes CO2e
Scope 2 emissions (market-based) 0 tonnes CO2e
Total Scope 1 and 2 (market-based) 102.5 tonnes CO2e

Our Scope 1 emissions come from natural gas for heating and manufacturing processes, our diesel hybrid vehicle fleet, and a small amount of propane. Our market-based Scope 2 emissions are zero because 100% of our electricity is supplied on a REGO-backed Zero Carbon Electricity tariff.

Energy

We consumed 420,894 kWh of energy across our site in 2024, comprising 361,965 kWh of electricity and 58,929 kWh of natural gas.

All of our electricity is sourced from certified renewable energy through a REGO-backed (Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin) tariff, eliminating our market-based Scope 2 emissions entirely.

We have reduced electricity consumption by 7.4% compared to our pre-COVID baseline (2019) through an LED lighting upgrade programme across the factory floor, offices and external areas. We continue to monitor energy use monthly and identify further reduction opportunities through our ISO 14001 environmental management system.

Waste

In 2025, we generated 154.3 tonnes of waste from our manufacturing operations, achieving a 100% recovery rate with zero waste sent to landfill. Our waste streams are fully segregated on-site, with metal and scrap steel recycled through our long-standing partnership with Smith Metals, and general waste sent for energy recovery.

Product Innovation

Our products directly support our customers’ decarbonisation goals. Our ultra-low NOx burner technology – recognised with the King’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation in 2010 – delivers significant reductions in nitrogen oxide emissions compared to conventional burners, improving air quality at customer sites across the UK and internationally.

We have also invested heavily in research and development for hydrogen-ready burner technology, for which we were recognised with the King’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation in 2025. We were the first burner manufacturer to achieve UKCA and CE certification for burners capable of running on 100% hydrogen and all possible blends between hydrogen and natural gas, preparing our customers for the UK’s transition to low-carbon heat.

Our Commitments

We have published a Net Zero Carbon Policy setting out our commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions across our operations. Our targets include a 30% reduction in Scope 1 emissions by 2030, maintaining 100% renewable electricity procurement, and maintaining zero waste to landfill. We plan to begin scoping Scope 3 emissions in 2026.
